The stars of the 2017 season are the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, opening the event with the traditional piece Má Vlast by Bedřich Smetana, the German soprano Diana Damrau or the well-known Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment conducted by William Christie. The festival takes place between the 12th of May and the 2nd of June and the tickets should be booked in great advance.

In May, Depeche Mode, Deep Purple and Rammstein stop with their tours in Prague, the famous Prague Náplavka (boardwalk) fills up with bands and pop-up stores and the first open-air festivals like the student celebrations of Majáles roll out.

The Prague marathon

Spring in Prague also stands for the marathon season. You can sign up for the whole 42-kilometer route, try the popular Sportisimo half marathon held on the 1st of April or join other, less demanding, competitions like the family or junior run.

Easter atmosphere

Spring in Prague is also a great opportunity to become familiar with Czech Easter traditions and traditional craft. Get an authentic souvenir at the Old Town Easter markets, try decorating eggs with local methods and taste the yummy Easter stuffing with pieces of nettle. Spring is also celebrated by the annually held St. Mathew´s fair located on the Výstaviště fairgrounds with tens of rides, shooting ranges and refreshment stalls.

Cruising the Vltava river

Spring also invites the inhabitants of Prague to enjoy the Vltava river. Rent a cheap and popular paddle boat, or go for a romantic gondola ride through Prague´s Venice - the Čertovka channel. A steamboat trip is also a good choice - take a ride to the outskirts of Prague and back, have a beer on the deck and start working on your tan. A very special way how to enjoy Vltava, fine food and jazz music at the same time and enjoy a great evening out is the Jazz & dine cruise, which you can book through ActiveCzech.com.

Opening up the beer gardens

Now the tasty part of spring in Prague - the famous beer gardens are opening their gates. E-scooter and bike tours

A nice way to welcome spring in Prague is to visit the sights, not on foot, but riding an e-scooter or renting a bike. It´s not too hot to pedal and you´ll get around the city much quicker. But have in mind, that Prague is a very hilly city, so plan your route wisely - start at the Prague Castle and then continue downhill to the Old Town.
