This classical music festival attracts mostly older tourists, but that doesn´t mean that it´s not a unique experience. The concert halls of the Municipal House or Rudolfinum are an attraction of their own - combined with the most shining stars of opera and classical music it makes an event to remember.
The stars of the 2017 season are the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, opening the event with the traditional piece Má Vlast by Bedřich Smetana, the German soprano Diana Damrau or the well-known Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment conducted by William Christie. The festival takes place between the 12th of May and the 2nd of June and the tickets should be booked in great advance.
A fan of more recent genres? May is the popular music concert season and you can enjoy yourself at many indoor and outdoor venues. In May, Depeche Mode, Deep Purple and Rammstein stop with their tours in Prague, the famous Prague Náplavka (boardwalk) fills up with bands and pop-up stores and the first open-air festivals like the student celebrations of Majáles roll out.
Spring in Prague also stands for the marathon season. You can sign up for the whole 42 kilometer route, try the popular Sportisimo half marathon held on the 1st of April or join other, less demanding, competitions like the family or junior run.
Spring in Prague is also a great opportunity to become familiar with Czech Easter traditions and traditional craft. Get an authentic souvenir at the Old Town Easter markets, try decorating eggs with local methods and taste the yummy Easter stuffing with pieces of nettle.
