Take a stroll with ActiveCzech.com and look around the most interesting things to see in Prague. And the capital of the Czech Republic has much to offer - historical monuments, modern buildings that catch the eye, natural beauties and hidden spots, that are usually known only by the locals.
Of course you wouldn´t like to leave Prague without seeingthe “Big 3”- Old Town Square, Charles Bridge and the Prague Castle. Our favourite sightseeing route, that we recommend you to follow, starts at the famousPrague orloj(astronomical clock) which shows the traditional “Walk of the Apostles" at the top of every hour.Look around the square for a while and then continue through Karlova street till you reach Charles Bridge. Cross it and continue through Mostecká and Nerudova street up to theGate of Giants entering the Prague Castle. A lovely walk through the complex and theroyal gardens will take you to Letná, where you can have a beer overlooking the city centre in one of the many beer gardens.
For fans of recent history, Prague offers a variety of more or less bizzare socialistic buildings. The district of Dejvice is dominated byHotel International - a great example of the so called “Socialist Realism”. The city centre around Náměstí Republiky is the home to theKotva shopping mall - a daring project of the Machonin creative duo.For examples of modern architecture built after the Velvet Revolution, take a walk on the riverfront. On a spot that was empty for decades (the house that stood there was bombed down by the Americans during WWII), Frank Genry and Vlado Milunić erected a uniquely shaped building evoking as if it was in constant motion - the Dancing House. All 3 buildings mentioned above feature apanoramatic terrace bar.
The city centre and its crowds can really tire you - and that´s the time to explore some places, where locals go to chill. One of them is the Prokop valley - a piece of wilderness just several tram stops from the Prague castle. Its karst structures invite adventure seakers to dig up fossils and trilobites and 2 streams running through the valley form various swimming opportunities - pure natural ponds and the legendary outdoor swimming pool with supercold water. Other great spots to spend a hot afternoon include the Žofín island in the city centre, where you can rent paddle boats and rowing boats, or Žluté lázně where you can swim in the Vltava river, play beach sports and have a couple of drinks at one of the many parties held there.
