June is the month when outdoor music, theatre and art festivals start to pop-up everywhere and the locals move to the riverbanks to chat and have a cold one. Let us give you some tips on what not to miss during your trip to Prague in June.
Average June temperature in Prague: 17ºC / 62,6ºF
Don't forget to pack: sunglasses, swimsuit, hat, a jacket for colder evenings
One of the most interesting events in June is the Prague Museum Night where you can see the inside of tens of historic monuments and museums and normally inaccessible places for free starting from 7 pm. Just prepare for lines if you come too early - the later you start exploring all the stops of the museum night, the better.
If you would prefer to see the hidden greenery of the Prague Castle and former royal palaces, the Open Gardens Weekend will be a true delight.
Another great tip for an unusual and free experience is the closing concert of the Prague Philharmonic - an open-air performance at the Prague Castle´s Hradčany Square.
You really won't know what to pick first. In June, we would like to highlight the world music Respect festival in the grounds of the Výstaviště Holešovice and the biggest festival in Prague United Islands with 15 stages and over 150 bands. You'll have the unique opportunity to check several stages in the Karlin area (along the metro Line B from Florenc to Invalidovna), and tens of clubs that support the festival with more intimate performances.
Another interesting festival takes place in June, even though it's indoors - Dance Prague. Starting at the beginning of June and continuing in the first half of the month, the Ponec theatre and other venues host a series of dance performances from groups all around the world.
June is also the month when many outdoor cinemas start screening - check out the summer cinema at Riegrovy Sady, at the Smíchov riverbank, in Karlín near Lyčkovo Square or under the huge metronome at Letná with a cool industrial bar in the base of the former Stalin monument.
The weather in June is perfect for some water fun. Go watch the traditional “Primátorky” rowing race held for the 105th time this year or have a swim in the Vltava river at the legendary lido of Žluté lázně with a cultural programme every evening during the summer. If you're looking for adrenalin activities, rent a hoverboard, flyboard or a jetpack that will let you fly above the water surface, or go for the classic wakeboarding or waterskiing experience.
TIP: Car lovers shouldn't miss the Legends exhibition - the biggest Czech motoring show, which combines autosalon, motosalon and exhibition rides, art and photographic exhibitions, club presentations and much more.
